Halloween 2015

The Kindergarten Parade - his shark costume from last year made another appearance :)

EJ was gone last week for FIVE days to be with his mom after her knee replacement surgery. We MISSED him something fierce! Mom was around A LOT to help. Phew, it's a lot juggling 5 schedules by myself, I am so glad I don't have to do it more often. EJ's mom is doing well but recovery is slow and painful.

Ryan had to save his pumpkin seeds for roasting or planting, he didn't care which.

No theme to our costumes this year other than RANDOM. Only for a picture and "happy birthday" video to Mim, did I wear this muscle shirt ;) Mason did not wear the wig with his ninja suit all night. And yes, Owen went around the neighborhood as a mullet wearing tie-dyed penguin (who scared cousin Tripp all night).

These two... a match made in heaven.

Everyone had a fun night. My parents and sister's family were here for dinner and trick-or treating. Thankful to have family nearby.

Dress Rehearsal

I wanted to prolong the cuteness of Halloween costumes and since they are always too eager to go trick or treating, I choose to take pictures yesterday. It was a beautiful fall day and we weren't in a hurry. Just completely enjoyed ourselves (at the risk of ruining our costumes). Taking photos was therapeutic for me!

Shark and Fidgety Fish go to the lake

Ryan's (tjmaxx special) costume was the inspiration for Avery's homemade fish costume. 

I had hoped the other 2 would join the theme, but alas they are too old :(

 

Her costume pattern idea came from here but I had to make it girlie :) I thought about a mermaid costume but she is much more a fidgety fish. At this point, she sees herself as one of the boys ;) The scales are made out of felt, the shiny ones have silver duck tape on them. I glued the whole thing and reinforced some parts with safety pins and duck tape. The fin and eyes are hand sewn (with hopes of removal) onto the hood of a sweatshirt. The front and back are connected by straps and the whole thing slips over her head. This was a good trial run b/c her eyes need some reinforcement ;)

We finally had to hide it before Halloween, b/c I was afraid he was going to tear it.

All Dressed Up

It is tradition for the kindergarten classes to parade around the school in costume. I am amazed at the hooting and hollering from the big kids. Perhaps just b/c they miss a few minutes of class ;)

My scary green dragon was a big hit with the kids and the teachers. 

Amazing was a little paint, cardboard, duct tape and art degree will get ya ;) 

This was our inspiration. But I hardly stuck to the instructions just kind of made it up as we went along. He had already lost his tail by this point.

This was him helping to paint the teeth and horns 2 weeks ago.

This is how much I love Chipotle. 

A $2 boorito was enough to resurrect the High School softball player bench warmer that I once was. My parents found my jersey and warm-up jacket when they moved and so generously gave it back to me :)No joking, I went out in public like this. 

Thanks to the help of my son's baseball pants and soccer socks and our band aid trick.

Pretty basic sewing (on the machine) and the felt didn't cost much at all.

Plus now he has a huge pillow pet ;)

 Ryan's costume was made by my mom, many many years ago when I was a child.

It still glows in the dark!

They had SO much fun. We have never had anyone to trick or treat with b/c there are so few kids in our neighborhood. But slowly there as been a turn over. At one point they joined in a group with 7 other kids.

Ryan LOVED getting candy. He didn't want to stop.
He is certainly our most outgoing child and had no problem helping himself to 2 or 5 pieces ;)
