18 months

I call this the "stuff your face" series.
Or perhaps more accurately the "3rd child with choking hazard" series.

Does 18 months sound younger than 1.5 yrs old?
Because ugh, my heart. It's going by too fast.

I took Ryan to the Dr. yesterday b/c he has been congested all week and his chest sounded raspy. Nothing that needed meds, just "junk" the Dr. said. Hmm... at least she put it into simple words for me.

While she was listening to his chest she started asking him if he knew where his nose, belly etc, was. I thought to myself, oops I should be teaching him those things. Instead, I felt like saying, no he doesn't know where is nose is, but he can hit a ball of a baseball T and he can make baskets with his toy hoop and he can climb onto the kitchen counter.

Amazing what I worried about when Owen was this age. I am still not understanding what's so great about being a 1st child. 3rd seems pretty fun :)

5 days His way

I mentioned a few weeks ago at the start of school, that I would miss my intentional time in God's word with the older 2. I wasn't sure how to "fit" it in to our school routine, so I asked the Lord for help. God was very generous. Over a period of a few days (He was quick), I brought together some past ideas with our recent word studies. I am very excited about what He revealed.

Before disclosing my plans here, I put them into practice. A week went by and I was continually thinking of new ideas. 2 weeks went by and I was working out the kinks. By week 3, I realized with humans sinners involved, it would never work perfectly (big shocker). Suffice to say by week 4, God has humbly reminded me that it's not about ME and I need to be flexible and creative, my plans won't ever be perfect. I am a slow learner. But I will say, I am thankful that He kept me seeking more. And I will continue to do so.

I share these ideas with you in hopes that you might know the joy I've found in sharing the gospel with my children, daily. Please remember, these are geared specifically for my family for where we are at this time, right now. This would not have worked for us last year (with a newborn). It might not work next year. I would love if these ideas helped you and blessed you. Ask Him. He will show you.

A few years ago, I made a chore chart for myself dividing up the house cleaning by day. Doing a little each weekday was much more manageable than trying to do the whole house at once. When I made the chore chart I also gave a prayer topic to each day. My hope was that we would pray as a family and it would give us a little direction. Well, it never really happened.

I mention all that b/c as I was praying about what to do with the boys this school year, my chart came to mind. I decided that I would give each weekday a "topic" (for lack of a better word) and a verse. Our summer study book really helped me as I brought my ideas to fruition. I will go into more detail for each day, next week. It's really not that complicated. It can be as little or as much as time and moods allow. I do not want each day to sound like a devotional (neither do my boys- they are not there yet). This is NOT a replacement for their bible reading, it is simply me being intentional about the afternoon time we are given together. It also guides our prayers during the day, at meals and at bedtime. Some days have set activities, some days we just pray. I am trying to infuse God into our days in tangible ways for my children. And I am realizing that if I am in His word daily, it is far easier to do. Imagine that!
"Hold the prism of God's Word up to the light of ordinary living so it is diffused into a rich spectrum of biblical color that dazzles and shows the glory of God in ordinary life."
"We can not impress our children with the fame of God's name if we are not impressed with him ourselves."
Tedd and Margy Tripp, Instructing a Child's Heart.

I will explain how these "ways" are fleshed out, but this is enough for now... if you even made it this far... phew!

Here they are (remember I am a graphic designer at heart ;)

Wellspring is totally blowing my mind. Well, really it's the Bible that is blowing my mind. And the fact that I get to stew over it with 11 amazing women. Crazy!

Brothers

Today Mason told Owen he wanted them to sit next to each other at dinner b/c they were friends. Owen responded "we aren't friends, we are brothers" Oh, I pray they are BOTH as long as they both shall live. Ryan included too :)

"I Bleed Purple"

That was the slogan we saw emblazoned on students at this year's homecoming game.
And they bled purple, right down to their purple vans, purple chucks and I even saw a pair of purple sequined shoes.
It's a whole other ball game, folks.
No simple stadium with a few thousand students and fans. The new stadium holds 25,000.
We are talking state of the art video scoreboard, purple and gold streamer rolls waiting on our seats (to be thrown), fireworks, give-away BamBams (weapons for my children to beat each other with).
 before renovation- held 15,000
the Dukes getting pumped up after warm-ups
the band was still incredible
owen and mason were mesmerized a huge inflatable duke dog tunnel
fireworks !?!?!
We won! 31-7
It was a great game. Unfortunately, it rained the entire second half.
We left with about 12 minutes still on the clock.
The stadium is not the only thing that has changed on campus. It's pretty incredible.
It's so fun going back as a family.
Dad joined us for the game while my mom stayed back with Ryan.

We went for a hike walk on a trail near their house earlier that day.
It got COLD over the weekend.
